"THE ONE YOU FEED"

Image
"The One You Feed" (& why fear is a sin) I call this watercolor "The One You Feed".    There is an old legend about a wise, old Cherokee Indian:   One evening the Old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside of people.   “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.   One is evil: it is envy, fear, greed, hatred, resentment, anger, self-pity, regret, inferiority, superiority and ego.   The other is good: it is joy, peace, love, hope, forgiveness, mercy, faith, generosity and Truth.”   The grandson contemplated that for a moment then asked, “which one wins?”   The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed”.       A while ago, I came across the following scripture which has given me much cause for introspection as you will see. Revelations 21:8 B ut the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have thei...

"Let God Prevail"

Image
LET GOD PREVAIL Last month was the October 2021 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.   Although all were excellent, the crowning addresses were from the Prophet, President Nelson. Anyway,  one of his that was particularly intriguing to me (and became even more so as I studied it) was entitled "Let God Prevail".  There is so very much more to this talk than this one aspect, so I encourage you to study the whole thing, but he started off by telling how he had learned that one of the Hebraic meanings for the name Israel is "Let God prevail" and " Thus the very name of  Israel  refers to a person who is  willing  to let God prevail in his or her life."  The thought of "letting God prevail" reminds me of the above meme which has been floating around the internet (& if you happen to know who's work it is, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due). To me, it means being willing to submit ou...

Deeply Rooted

Image
Deeply Rooted Deep Belief vs. Deep Relationship Am I deeply rooted in Christ? That's the question of the day... I’m just going to be completely honest and vulnerable here in the hopes that I am not the only one feeling this way and maybe this soul searching can help more than myself. This morning as I awoke I pondered on my flounderings spiritually.  I have felt like the last few years I have just been going in circles & spinning my wheels. Although I do feel my efforts moving me upward, it seems like for every step forward I get pushed back two.  I think I know what I need to do physically, emotionally and spiritually to get from A to Z but for some reason I am having trouble actually doing it all.   It just feels like everything is progressively mounting against me... (but good news...I've been told that that is a good sign though, so, ok…let's get back on the horse!)  So this morning, I decided I needed to attempt AGAIN to pray with specific ...

Pattern For Avoiding Deception

Image
Pattern for Avoiding Deception Doctrine & Covenants 52:14-19 I chose this one to accompany this topic because of the dark surrounding the flowers... I call this acrylic "Trusting the Light".  It reminds me of just that... to not fear the evil around us, knowing that Light will always triumph over darkness  And when we focus on the Light and let it shine through us, the world becomes a little brighter, filling with a little more hope!  We can bloom amidst the darkness! I love that the scriptures are full of patterns and recipes for a protected, joyful and abundant life!   Doctrine and Covenants 52 shows us a pattern for avoiding the ever-increasing, cleverly-laid deceptions that are so prevelant in our day.  As I read, I realized I have so many things to repent of and to work on but was grateful to have such a perfect, straight forward "pattern" to follow.  This is what I learned: 14   And again, I will give unto you a pattern in all thing...

Palms & Palms

Image
Palms & Palms I call this one "The good man" as explained below.                                                             I call this sketch "I have graven thee".   Special thanks to my amazing husband for being the model for this drawing! Being one who continually strives to become more like his Savior, I can't think of anyone I would rather have!                                                               God is a Master Wordsmith! Although these two types of "palms" are very different, they are very much the same!  It was fun to discover this ingenious play on w...
